Identifying a VPC Gen 2 Block Storage from inside a VSI

Hi

as a Cloud Operator, I woule like to build some VSI on VPC Gen 2 (Linux and Windows) with several volumes attached during the provisioning step. Some of them have the same size but different functions.

So I need to know which VPC Block Storage Volume is linked to any of my logical volumes, in my VSI.

When I want to delete only one disk in my VSI, I need to know which Block Storage to detach/delete.

All of these actions must be orchestrated with no human interaction

    From the product team :

This capabilty is available through the Metadata Service today. The process is documented here. https://www.ibm.com/blog/using-the-metadata-service-to-identify-disks-in-your-vsi-with-ibm-cloud-vpc/

This needs to be put in Classic as well.

In the virtual world, this is done by the hypervisor assigning a computer generated serial number to each virtual disk that gets passed to the guest OS. Then one can look at the serial number of the disk that needs to be deleted or modified in the guest OS, then on the hypervisor, find the virtual disk with the same serial number.
