Version WPAR

WPAR is a supported product from Power Systems brand. With WPAR, client can run multiple virtual LPARs within an LPAR. It's like running containers within a VM. Currently all WPARs ( vritual lpars ) within an LPAR must be at the same level. In previous releases of WPAR, a special use case called Version WPAR used to be supported. With Version WPAR, a back level of AIX such as 5.3 and 6.1 could be a WPAR in an AIX 7.1 LPAR. Lots of customers still have AIX 5.3 and 6.1 due to app issues. With Version WAPR, we can move those AIX 5.3/6.1 to cloud a Version WPAR. This is a win-win for client and IBM cloud/Systems team.

Remember: since Power9 there's no support for standard WPARs. Only versioned WPARs remain available. I agree, this could help you migrate old software to the cloud.
