Please add support for Satellite Connector with agents running on IBM VPC infrastructure.
The FAQ for Satellite Connector (https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/satellite?topic=satellite-connector-faq&interface=ui) says:
"Can I deploy Satellite Connectors within IBM Cloud?
Connectors are generally not recommended for use within IBM Cloud except for specific use cases. Please contact your IBM account team if you believe you need this support for your solution."
I contacted IBM support and they said:
"If you would like to request such functionality be added in a future release of Satellite Connector, we urge you to please submit a feature request at the following location: https://ibmcloud.ideas.ibm.com/ideas"
The thing is, the feature already exists and works, it's just not officially supported. I have yet to tease out what the "specific use cases" are, but maybe this situation should apply:
We have a third party application we are running on an IBM Cloud VPC instance. The application needs to be accessible from IBM API Connect, but is unable to present any TLS endpoints of it's own - only unsecured ports. Since we are already using Satellite Connector with IBM API Connect for access to on-prem resources, it seems like a nice solution to also use Satellite Connector to provide secured access from IBM API Connect to IBM VPC based resources.
To be clear, it all works. I have set it up to test, however IBM claim in the documentation that it's "not recommended".
The idea I'm having here is that IBM should support it.
