Electro thermal generation systems on SuperMUC cooling system.

Hi,

I recently watched a video about the SuperMUC supercomputer and was really impressed by how IBM efficiently cools it using cold water. What truly caught my attention was how the excess heat is repurposed to supply hot water to nearby buildings.

That inspired an idea: what if we take it a step further? Imagine integrating a thermoelectric generator system into the cooling process—harvesting the heat from the supercomputer and converting it back into electricity. This regenerated power could then be used to help run the supercomputer itself or even supply electricity to nearby communities.

I’m not a scientist—just an everyday person with a big interest in solving energy problems. I don’t have the resources to bring this idea to life, but maybe a company like IBM could explore it further.

This is just my idea, and I hope it sparks some interest.

Thank you so much for sharing your idea and passion for sustainable energy solutions. It's always inspiring to see how innovations like the SuperMUC supercomputer can spark new thinking. While this suggestion doesn't align directly with a product feature enhancement for our existing Cloud offerings, we truly value your curiosity and the thought you put into this concept.

Ideas like yours — especially those that explore the intersection of technology and environmental impact—are important and can help shape future conversations. We’re closing this submission in our RFE portal, but sharing it with our sustainability and hardware folks. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and engaging with the community.
