As data lakehouse architectures become increasingly prevalent, the need for open table formats that support ACID transactions, schema evolution, and time travel is critical.
This proposal suggests integrating Apache Iceberg into IBM Cloud Object Storage (COS) to enable native support for open table formats. This would allow users to manage large-scale tabular data directly in COS with transactional consistency, making IBM COS a more attractive option for lakehouse implementations.
Key capabilities would include:
Native Iceberg table creation and management in COS
Support for schema evolution and partitioning
Time travel and rollback capabilities
Compatibility with query engines like Trino, Spark, and Flink
Table-level access control and integration with IAM policies
