Cilium for secure Multi-Ach communication between mainframe and Public Cloud

Cilium by Isovalent is software for an encrypted communication between different Kubernetes clusters. They provide support for different architectures on Service Mesh (Istio) for the communication between Kubernetes clusters, on Proxy level and more. IBM is doing so much marketing for Multi-Arch OpenShift, but does not keep in mind, that they have rejected the s390x enablement for connecting additional systems to the mainframe in the past with the reason, that the mainframe would be secure enough.

The OpenShift on Z department is rejecting all useful requests. The mainframe can be used also via IBM Cloud and together with OpenShift.

I want to sell secure Hybrid Cloud environments. Therefore, we need Cilium as a foundation for encrypted communication between mainframe and external systems, the same as to Public Clouds. This software is also a foundation knowledge for the Kubernetes Security certification.

I have created this upstream issue for Cilium: https://github.com/cilium/cilium/issues/40493

I am working together with Cilium people to get their software enabled and include s390x builds in all required upstream projects.

IBM should know about this feature in the future. That is community driven with the benefit of 2 former OpenShift Developers (1 also IBM Z Kernel Developer) outside of IBM in the open source community.
