Problem: Point-in-time restore always creates a new instance. For a planned DR test or a real disaster, applications (for example IBM Maximo Application Suite) must then be re-pointed to new hosts, a new CA certificate and new credentials, which adds steps, time and risk to every DR switch.
Idea: Offer a cross-region read replica / standby that can be promoted, or allow restoring a point in time into an existing instance in another region, keeping a stable endpoint and CA for the DR site.
Benefit: Shorter and safer DR for every product built on Databases for MongoDB; fewer configuration changes on DR day.
