PROBLEM: After a civil-rights jury verdict, post-trial motions (judgment notwithstanding the verdict, new trial) have strict deadlines, and the outcome of those motions determines whether the verdict stands. Unrepresented litigants routinely miss these windows because no system tracks them.
SOLUTION: A post-trial deadline tracker for civil-rights verdicts: final-judgment date, motion deadlines, the motion filed, the court's ruling and date, and the appeal window that follows — all drawn from public docket entries.
EVIDENCE BASIS: DOCUMENTED — In Bostick v. McGuire, final judgment was entered April 7, 2017 (Doc. 84); the plaintiff's motion for judgment notwithstanding the verdict or, alternatively, a new trial (Doc. 87) was denied July 14, 2017 (Doc. 89). The jury had returned a verdict for the defendant on April 7, 2017 (Doc. 83).
