Problem summary:
Satellite storage APIs support registering desired storage configuration at the time of cluster creation. If however there is a need to add more storage capacity to a cluster then there is no indication to the service requesting the additional capacity if the location admin has been able to fulfill this request. Satellite service like COS will likely stall till the location admin has successfully allocated storage capacity to the cluster.
Solution:
In order to have a better user experience, the ask here is to update the existing storage API to support addition of storage capacity to a cluster and informing the IBM service when that additional capacity has been allocated so that the service can then proceed with cluster expansion.
To achieve this the Get applied storage configuration has to provide additional details of the storage infrastructure that the location admin has deployed to meet the desired storage configuration request from the service. The additional information includes the storage capacity. In addition, further details like max volume size can also be included to optimize how the service will split requested capacity across multiple volumes.
