This idea was created a while back (IDEA-I-3218), and closed, with the only real comment from a developer being that they were not responsible for PowerVS.
I should also comment that this problem only really applies to booting the PowerVS instance, navigating the SMS and then perhaps grub interfaces and during troubleshooting boot related problems.
As noted previously the Java console provided by the GUI is very basic and has no ability to cut and paste to/from the window. Capturing an image doesn't really cut it for documentation, and some passwords need pasting.
Once the OS is available and the network is operational, there are plenty of useful options - but nothing before this point.

Hi,
Is that a dodgy link / comment below (Solved), or am I missing something???
Solved here
Hi Teresa,
- When producing documentation for the original installation (or to feed a case), it's a lot easier (and more useful) to capture a terminal image as text than as an image.
- When pasting a public key into the root user's authorized_keys, the terminal is simply the only out-of-band channel we can use.
- When dealing with the openfirmware, it's frequently necessary to copy the output of a previous command to paste as an argument for the following command.
- When logging in, using long and complex passwords, typing them by hand is error-prone. When changing long and complex passwords, typing them by hand is disaster-prone. The ability to copy a password from a vault and pasting on the terminal window is a must.
The ability to cut&paste on the webconsole is something that just "has to be there".
can you send the specific from the use case so we can review it
Yes
Are you able to recreate the test case?
agreed if it enhances function and is provided in other solutions like skytap we should offer the same
Skytap provide this fonctionnality, why not IBM PowerVS ?
+1
I guess a "pi instance-operation" mechanism (someone comment on that) with something similar to TN5250 would allow to cut&paste from terminal console.
This is also "mandatory" if you need to use overly long&complex passwords, which typically are copy-pasted from a password manager to reduce the likelihood of error.
Perhaps the PowerVS CLI can be enhanced to provide some sort of "pi instance-operation" command that can connect to the console and allow cut/paste operations?
Having the ability to cut/paste text to and from the PowerVS VM console would be very beneficial. Particularly when troubleshooting boot issues on AIX (or Linux for that matter). It is often necessary to type in various commands to troubleshoot an AIX VM, when it is unable to boot. For example, https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/capturing-debug-boot-output-hmc. Without the capability to cut and paste text to/from the console, this can be a very difficult and tedious task to complete. I, for one, add my vote to this feature and enhancement request.
