On October 15, 2025, F5 disclosed that a "highly sophisticated" nation-state actor had breached its internal systems, stealing portions of its BIG-IP source code and information about undisclosed vulnerabilities.
Since then, we as managed service provider have discussions with our customers if F5 Big-IP systems are still the solution of choice for LoadBalancer/WAF systems. We today use such systems to safeguard systems in IBM Cloud against threads against web servers.
Yes, we can use a combination of CIS and loadbalancing reverse proxy to replace F5 LB/WAF for incoming internet traffic. But our customer requests to place a WAF also in the private subnets as guard against attacks from his private networks.
Therefore the question if IBM Cloud plans to add an offering for another LB/WAF solution as replacement or alternative for the existing F5 offerings.
