Logical Replication with copy data in PostgreSQL 15

We would like to request support and clarification regarding logical replication behavior in PostgreSQL 15 on IBM Cloud.

Currently, in IBM Cloud–managed PostgreSQL 15, logical replication with copy_data = true is not supported, This limitation creates a significant challenge for use cases where copy new data for delta changes is not supported, which is a standard and supported capability in upstream PostgreSQL.

Because of this restriction, customers who need to:

  • Perform an initial data synchronization, and its huge tedious task for large databases.

are unable to implement a complete and reliable logical replication setup on PostgreSQL 15 in IBM Cloud.

This limitation directly impacts immutable deployment scenarios where both baseline data and real-time changes must be replicated seamlessly.

We request IBM Cloud to:

  • Enable support for logical replication in PostgreSQL 15 with copy_data = true/false, or

  • support logical replicaiton creation for only new delta changes
